Dear Parents, Students, RCPS Administration and members of the community,

Last night, the Rappahannock County High School Concert Band performed an outstanding program at our district concert band festival. Despite missing many hours of rehearsal time due to snow last month, the band rose to the occasion, earning a superior rating from all judges, as well as a standing ovation from the audience! The band not only played superbly, but the students displayed a high level of professionalism and maturity in a way that I have not yet experienced in my career. A job well done!

Thank you to everyone for supporting the band and coming out to see our pre-festival concert on Wednesday evening. The hard work and dedication of each and every student is what set our band apart last night. They set their standards high and reached their goal. The students have never sounded better, and I couldn't be prouder.

Because we also earned a superior rating earlier this year at marching band festival last October, we will now be recognized as a "Virginia Honor Band" by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director's Association (VBODA). This is the highest honor a band in the state can earn and is the first time in RCHS history that the band has achieved this prestigious designation!

I have great pleasure and pride in what the band was able to achieve last night. Being a successful band is not easy, and requires discipline, teamwork and strong commitment to excellence. I am reminded each and every day of how lucky I am to teach in such a supportive community that values music education. It is truly rewarding to work with such fine musicians, parents and administration, who all work together to help guide our students to reach their goals. If you are a parent of a band student, you know how hard we have worked over the past few weeks and months to get where we are today.

So, congratulations to the RCHS Band for achieving Honor Band Status for the first time in history! We have a lot to be proud of and I only see greater success in our future!

Sincerely,

David DeBoer

Dear parents and students,

Thank you to everyone for working so hard this week!! I look forward to great performance on Saturday.

Please remember that we have a mandatory rehearsal tomorrow evening from 5:30-8pm.

Saturday's call time is 7:15am and we should return around 6pm. I will have students call once we are in Warrenton.

Our performance time is 11am. PLEASE COME OUT AND WATCH!!!! Once again we are the 3rd band to go on and probably will not have much of an audience. These students thrive on performance and crowd reaction.

Directions to Oakton:

Coming from the West:
I-66 East
Exit 60 -- Rt. 123 North (Chain Bridge Rd.)
Proceed to second traffic light
Turn right onto Jermantown Road (name changes to Blake Lane)
Proceed to the second traffic light and turn left onto Sutton Road
School is on the left for passenger drop off
You will be directed to follow the signs to the Metro parking lot

Attached is a pdf map of spectator parking.

As I am sure you all know the weather is looking unfortunate for the next two days. For both Friday and Saturday please make sure that students have warm clothes with them. Tomorrow evening (although it will probably be raining) we will need to rehearse outside...this will get us ready for a possible rainy performance on Saturday.

I have purchased nice heavy ponchos for the students...which we will use on Friday and Saturday if needed. It would be a good idea for students to bring their own umbrellas just in case for Saturday.

Please have students bring $5-10 for concession or fast food lunch on Saturday.
